Case Statement | Layout Design
Client: Upaya Social Ventures
Audience: Philanthropic Foundations
Upaya Social Ventures helps early-stage entrepreneurs in India to scale their businesses.
Upaya wanted to update their case statement with a professional layout. InDesign was the right tool for the job, but it did not fit into Upaya’s workflow. The challenge was creating a professional layout in InDesign and then optimizing it for Google Sheets, where Upaya’s team can routinely update metrics. The final result is a living document, packed full of relevant data, delivered in a sleek visual format.
Creative Problem Solving
How do you import an InDesign layout into Google Sheets or PowerPoint without losing design elements?
1. From InDesign, create a layer for all elements that may need to be adjusted in Google Sheets.
2. Now that only static elements are visible, export the file as a JPG, flattening the pages into images.
3. Place these flat pages in a new layer below the dynamic elements.
4. Ensure both layers are visible, then export to a PDF. Open the new file in Google Sheets.
5. There should be very little change between the two formats allowing anyone to modify the necessary metrics.
